Prohibited on all cruise lines
- Surge-protected power strips — non-surge power strips are usually OK
- Irons and steamers — fire hazard — use the ship's laundry service
- Candles and incense — open flames prohibited
- Drones — banned on all major cruise lines
- Weapons of any kind — including pocket knives
- Illegal substances
Alcohol policies vary by line
- Royal Caribbean: 2 bottles of wine per stateroom at embarkation, no spirits
- Carnival: 1 bottle of wine or champagne per person, no spirits
- Norwegian: no outside alcohol permitted
- Most lines: Alcohol purchased in ports is held until disembarkation
